The Lagos State government has warned of a highly aggressive and contagious strain of cholera spreading rapidly across the city. With 17 confirmed cases and 15 deaths reported so far, health officials have identified the strain as cholera sub-type O-1, known for causing severe illness.
Truth Live News gathered that, Professor Akin Abayomi, the Commissioner for Health, emphasized the urgent need for community-based case finding and contact tracing, noting a peak in cases now declining. He described the strain as “highly aggressive and contagious, with potential for widespread dissemination.”
Meanwhile, in Ondo State, the government has activated surveillance to swiftly respond to any cholera cases. Health Commissioner Dr. Banji Ajaka highlighted previous outbreaks in Okitipupa and announced bolstered surveillance efforts to prevent further spread.
