Gunmen Murder Edo Palace Chief, Abduct 2 Daughters As Police Launch Investigations

Gunmen have murdered a high ranking Palace Chief in Iduah Kingdom, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Chief Jimah Jacob Ogboi and abducted his two daughters just as the police said that full scale investigations have been launched into the incident.

The gunmen were said to have struck Monday night and instantly shot at the deceased while they used machete and other dangerous weapons on his wife.

One of the sons of the deceased, Lucky, said he stepped out to buy something when the incident happened, adding that he was called that his father has been killed and he returned to find his mother seriously injured.

Following the attack, the community elders were said to have summoned an emergency meeting to discuss possible rescue of the two daughters as well as address the root cause of the attack.

Commenting on the incident, the Traditional ruler of the community, HRH Alhaji Amedu Momoh, appealed to the state government and security agencies to urgently come to their aid and strengthen security in the area.

“About four of them went to the house of one of our chief. They shot him and went away with two of the daughters. Nigerians and other security agencies have come here since the incident happened.

“We need assistance in tackling insecurity issue. Government should come and assist us. There has been some sort of security here in our land but it’s like they have gone to reinforce.

He said they were not happy with the growing menace of suspected herdsmen attack on farmland.

Confirming the incident, Edo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),Eno Ikoedem said the police had launched an investigation.

She said the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, is currently in Ekpoma ,Edo Central with other top brass of the command with a view of halting such attacks.

“I can confirm the incident and the CP and other top officers of the command to halt incidents like this. For this killing and abduction, the Police have launched an investigation”, Ikoedem said.
