The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers linked to the abduction of a four-year-old boy in Numan Local Government Area of the state, Truth Live News International reports.
The command disclosed the development in a statement on Friday by its spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje.
According to the police, the child’s father, Umar Ibrahim, a resident of Ngballang village in Numan LGA, reported the case after his son, Ramadan, went missing.
Nguroje explained that the boy had gone out to play on March 1, 2026, but did not return home, prompting the family to begin a search before reporting the incident to the police.
He said, “On the 2nd March 2026, one Umar Ibrahim of Ngballang, Numan LGA, reported at the Police Station in Numan that on the 1st March 2026, his four-year-old son, Ramadan, went out to play but did not return home. All efforts by the family to locate the child initially proved unsuccessful.”
The police added that the situation took another turn when the family received a phone call from an unknown individual claiming the boy had been kidnapped and demanding ransom.
“Some days later, the complainant received a call from an unknown number informing him that his son had been kidnapped and demanded a ransom of Eight Hundred Thousand Naira (₦800,000),” the statement added.
Following investigations by operatives attached to the Numan Division, two suspects identified as Sadiq Ali, 19, and Shitu Umar, 23, both residents of Lafiya in Lamurde Local Government Area, were arrested in connection with the crime.
Police authorities said the suspects allegedly confessed to committing what was described as an organised criminal act.
The command added that the Anti-Kidnapping Unit had been directed to take over the case for further investigation and necessary action.
The police also urged residents to stay alert and report suspicious activities, reiterating their commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
