Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa has called Nigerians in diaspora to be their brothers keepers, resolve conflicts peacefully, and uphold unity, respect, and lawfulness as ambassadors of Nigeria.
She made the call while reacting to the killing of Emeka Christian, a Nigerian beaten to death in Pune, India, by two compatriots amid a romantic dispute.
Emeka was allegedly killed by Chukwudi Okafor, 31 and Samuel Eze, “in a senseless act of violence.”
Abike Dabiri-Erewa said violence is not known among Nigerians and the must do everything possible to live peacefully wherever they found themselves.
“Violence has no place among us. Together, we can build a stronger, more positive diaspora community,” Dabiri-Erewa said.
However, the commission has extended its deepest condolences to Christian’s family and loved ones, stressing that “no family should endure such heartbreak.”
This was contained in statement signed by NiDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdul-Rahman Balogun and made available to Journalists.
NiDCOM urged Indian authorities to launch a thorough, transparent investigation and ensure swift justice for the victim.
