A 24-year-old woman, Jessica Anthony, has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command after confessing to plotting the robbery of her boyfriend’s home with the aim of stealing his expensive gold jewellery.
Jessica, who is currently in police custody in Asaba alongside her accomplice, identified simply as Ada, admitted that they contacted suspected armed robbers to carry out the operation.
According to her confession, the plan was for the robbers to steal the gold, sell it and hand over the money to her.
She said she was driven by financial pressure, explaining that she needed money to settle her sister’s bills.
“I told them to go to his house and collect his gold. They would sell it and give me the money,” she said, while also admitting that she would be devastated if her boyfriend had done the same to her.
Jessica, a secondary school dropout, revealed that she and the man had previously dated, broke up, and later reconciled in December 2025.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, explained that Jessica and her friend went in search of criminals at a known criminal hotspot in Warri to execute the plan.
The police spokesman added, “Am not sure if she told them the person was her boyfriend.
“But unfortunately for her, the person she met happened to be the leader of that community who has been helping the police to ensure that these bad guys are flushed out of the community.
“Unfortunately for her also, he happened to know the guy because they asked for the guy’s picture.
“Upon bringing the picture, it happened to be someone they knew.
“He quickly contacted him that somebody has come to us that we should come and rob you.
“The boyfriend now said ok. Please, just play along. So, they played along, they told her that the money that they will need to buy tools is around N65,000.
“She transferred N50,000 through POS and gave them the cash of N15,000 making it the N65,000. They played along.
“She actually took them to the estate where the boyfriend lives, showed them the house of the boyfriend.
“It was when they were coming back from the estate that the boyfriend alerted the security of the estate and they were all arrested and she opened up.
“The said boyfriend said one of his gold bracelets cost N4.2 million. He said the other gold cost N8.9 million.
“He said, ‘I feel heartbroken because I never expected it from her.”
