Kano Hisbah Foils Human Trafficking Attempt, Arrests Suspect

The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a 43-year-old man, Abubakar Adodo, for allegedly attempting to traffic two women to Somalia via Benin Republic.

The victims, Hajara Ismail 22-year-old from Funtua, Katsina State, and Bilkisu Haruna, 33-year-old from Kofar Marusa, also from Katsina State, were reportedly intercepted at a motor park in Kano while preparing to travel to Lagos and then continue their journey to Somalia.

The Deputy commander general of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen Abubakar, said the arrest followed a tip-off from concerned citizens.

“The operation was carried out by the Officer-in-Charge of Motor Parks Operations after we received credible information from Good Samaritans.”

He confirmed that the suspect and the two women have since been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation.
