The Nigerian Army says its troops have successfully repelled coordinated attacks by terrorists on military bases in Adamawa and Borno states.
According to S.A. Atokolo, acting media officer of Operation Hadin Kai, several attackers were killed during the clashes.
Atokolo said terrorists attempted to overrun a patrol base at Sabon Gari in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa in the early hours of Friday. Troops at the base, supported by reinforcements from Gulak and the battalion quick reaction force, forced the assailants to retreat without any casualties on the military side.
He added that the Troops later cleared the area and searched for explosives to ensure the safety of civilians and personnel.
In Borno, terrorists launched a multi-directional attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Azir. Atokolo said parts of the base’s defensive perimeter were initially breached, but the attackers were repelled after a firefight lasting over an hour, with support from army aerial units.
The attack damaged troop vehicles and the base’s CCTV control room. Troops retained control and recovered weapons and ammunition, including a 60mm mortar tube, mortar bombs, heavy machine gun rounds, and hundreds of rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition.
Atokolo added that intelligence and aerial surveillance tracked fleeing militants, and follow-up air strikes killed additional terrorists.
