NIGERIA, CALABAR – The Cross River State Police Command on Friday dismissed a viral video alleging insecurity in Boki and Ikom, describing it as misleading.
Police authorities said their preliminary findings confirmed the footage did not originate from Cross River State as widely claimed online.
Police Debunk Alleged Security Threat in Boki and Ikom
According to the Command, the video actually captured activities of armed Ambazonian rebels operating in Cameroon’s English-speaking region.
Investigators traced the incident to Ekok, a border town in Cameroon, and not Boki or any part of Ikom.
The Command stressed that no security breach occurred within Cross River communities in relation to the circulating footage.
Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, speaking for the Commissioner of Police, assured residents that the state remains calm.
He urged commuters, business owners, and rural dwellers to continue lawful activities without fear or unnecessary panic.
“The video is old and unrelated to Cross River State,” he stated, emphasizing the Command’s commitment to facts.
The spokesperson added that officers continue to monitor border communities to prevent cross-border threats.
Security patrols along international boundaries have intensified, especially around border corridors linking Cameroon and Cross River.
He warned residents against sharing unverified content capable of inciting panic or undermining public confidence.
Situational ethics demand careful verification before publication, especially in fragile border environments prone to misinformation.

The Command reiterated that security agencies remain proactive and prepared to neutralize emerging threats.

Eight Corpses Discovered at Isong Inyang Facility
Meanwhile, the Police Command addressed reports concerning the discovery of corpses at Isong Inyang community along the Calabar–Ikom Highway.
Authorities said credible intelligence reached the police at about 11:56 hours on February 13, 2026.
Operatives responded immediately and visited the embalmment facility to ascertain the authenticity of the report.
Upon arrival, officers discovered eight well-dried corpses inside the hall.
Police promptly arrested a suspect identified as Sunday Ben Reuben in connection with the discovery.
Investigators identified the suspect as a native of Nsit Ibom in Akwa Ibom State.
Preliminary findings indicate he works as a mortician attached to Enghaut Company Mortuary in Akamkpa Local Government Area.
The suspect remains in custody as detectives conduct comprehensive investigations into the matter.
Police authorities said investigators are examining whether any extant laws were violated.
“The investigation is ongoing and will determine if any legal infractions occurred,” the spokesperson said.
He appealed to the public to avoid speculation capable of distorting facts before the conclusion of inquiries.
Community leaders in the axis have reportedly engaged security agencies to ensure calm prevails.
The Command pledged transparency and promised to provide verified updates as investigations progress.

Obanliku Incident: Police Launch Internal Investigation
In a related development, the Command clarified circumstances surrounding an incident at Utuhu Junction in Obanliku Local Government Area.
Police operatives had embarked on a lawful mission to arrest suspects in an assault case.
Authorities identified the complainant as Elizabeth Akinya, who reported Assault Occasioning Harm.
The suspects included Peter Odey, also known as “Ola,” Michael Ashaba, and others.
Police rejected online claims linking the operation to unlawful gambling activities.
On February 9, 2026, at about 1400 hours, the suspects allegedly resisted arrest violently.
According to police accounts, the suspects mobilized youths who attacked the police team.
During the confrontation, assailants forcefully dispossessed officers of two assault rifles.
Truth live news correspondents in Calabar reports that the development posed a significant threat to public safety and escalated tensions within the community.
In efforts to prevent the escape of armed suspects, police engaged tactical response measures.
Peter Odey sustained a gunshot injury during the operation and was rushed to Sacred Heart Hospital, Obudu.
Three injured officers received treatment at General Hospital, Sankwala.
Security reinforcement from Military Tactical Teams, community leaders, and government authorities stabilized the situation.
Police confirmed recovery of the two assault rifles and retrieval of the patrol vehicle.
Normalcy has since returned to the affected community, according to official briefings.
“The Command has commenced an internal investigation and no officer is above the law,” the spokesperson stated.
He assured residents that due process would guide disciplinary and prosecutorial steps where necessary.
The Command urged citizens to remain calm and avoid inflammatory commentary capable of prejudicing investigations.
