5–7 minutes

NIGERIA, ABUJA – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing the incidents as disturbing and unacceptable.

The President expressed grief over the loss of lives and injuries recorded during the coordinated explosions across different locations in the state capital.

According to statements sighted on his official X handle by Truth Live News, Tinubu said the nation stands in solidarity with affected families.

“The recent news from Maiduguri, Borno State, is profoundly upsetting,” the President stated while mourning victims of the violent attacks.

He added that government sympathises with those injured and assured citizens of continued support during the ongoing security challenges in the region.

Tinubu Says Terrorists Acting Under Pressure

President Tinubu described the attacks as desperate attempts by weakened terrorist groups facing sustained military pressure across multiple operational theatres.

He stressed that ongoing offensives by Nigeria’s armed forces have significantly disrupted the operations of criminal elements in affected regions.

“I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts,” Tinubu said.

He maintained that terrorists aim to instil fear among citizens despite facing increasing resistance from security agencies.

According to the President, the government will intensify its campaign against all forms of criminality nationwide.

“We will continue to intensify our efforts against all criminal elements, wherever they may be,” he assured.

Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that no part of Nigeria becomes a safe haven for terrorist groups.

“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety,” he declared.

The President insisted that security forces would locate and eliminate all threats to national stability and peace.

“We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them,” Tinubu added.

Troops Repel Attacks, Government Commends Military

President Tinubu commended Nigerian troops for their bravery in repelling coordinated attacks on military formations within Borno State.

He described the response of the armed forces as courageous and reflective of their commitment to national security and territorial integrity.

“I must commend the courage and fighting spirit of our patriotic troops,” the President stated.

According to him, the successful defence of military positions demonstrated operational readiness among security personnel deployed in conflict zones.

Tinubu described the attacks as acts of desperation by terrorist groups attempting to regain lost ground.

“The Monday attacks were desperate acts of the evil-minded terrorist groups,” he said.

He assured Nigerians that both military forces and civilian task groups would continue efforts to neutralise insurgent threats.

“Our gallant military and civilian task forces will curtail and put them down,” the President added.

Government sources indicated that security operations have intensified across the North-East following the renewed attacks.

Additional Military Support Approved

President Tinubu disclosed that he recently approved additional equipment and operational resources to strengthen security operations across affected regions.

He said the approval followed consultations with heads of security and intelligence agencies during a high-level security meeting.

“Just last weekend, during a security meeting, I approved additional equipment and operational support,” Tinubu explained.

According to him, deployment of the approved resources has already commenced to enhance operational effectiveness of security agencies.

The President emphasised that the government remains proactive in addressing evolving security threats within the country.

He further directed top security chiefs to relocate temporarily to Maiduguri to oversee coordinated response efforts on ground.

“I have directed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation,” he stated.

Tinubu also instructed emergency response agencies to prioritise treatment and care for victims injured during the attacks.

“I have also directed the emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured,” he added.

Vice President Shettima Mourns Victims

Vice President Kashim Shettima has also expressed deep sorrow over the deaths recorded during the Maiduguri explosions on Monday.

In a statement posted on his official X handle and monitored by Truth Live News, Shettima confirmed that at least 25 persons died.

He described the killings as tragic and emphasised that no religion supports the taking of innocent lives under any circumstance.

The Vice President spoke on Tuesday during the closing of the Annual Ramadan Tafsir at the State House Mosque in Abuja.

“Ahead of his trip to Maiduguri, the Vice President expressed grief over the death of 25 persons,” the statement noted.

He prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls and asked God to grant their families strength to bear the loss.

“May the lives of innocent souls that lost their lives in Maiduguri rest in peace,” Shettima prayed.

He further urged Nigerians, particularly Muslim faithful, to uphold the values of Ramadan beyond the holy month.

“The question before us is whether its teachings will continue to live in us,” the Vice President stated.

Public Reactions Trail Presidential Statement

Reactions have continued to trail the President’s statement, with Nigerians expressing mixed opinions on government’s handling of security challenges.

Some citizens criticised the administration, arguing that repeated assurances have not translated into improved safety across affected communities.

A user identified as Abdool Moh, reacting on social media, said Nigerians are tired of explanations and demand stronger protection measures.

“Nigerians are tired of excuses and explanations, they want protection for their lives and properties,” the user stated.

He further called for accountability, urging leadership to take decisive actions to address insecurity in the country.

However, other respondents commended the President for issuing a firm and reassuring statement during a difficult national moment.

Another user, Ojo Moore, described the message as timely and encouraging amid growing security concerns nationwide.

“This is a powerful and reassuring message at a very difficult time,” the user stated.

He added that the President’s remarks reinforced national resolve against terrorism and restored confidence in government efforts.

Some commentators also highlighted differences in communication styles between current and past administrations regarding national security matters.

A user identified as Son of Ilaje noted that such statements help build public confidence and strengthen trust in leadership.

“This statement gave not only courage, it gave hope and restored faith in Nigerians,” the user said.

Government Reaffirms Commitment to National Security

Despite criticisms, the federal government insists that security agencies remain committed to protecting lives and property across Nigeria.

President Tinubu reiterated that the fight against terrorism will continue until all threats are neutralised completely.

He emphasised that government will not allow fear to dictate national direction or undermine democratic stability.

“Nigeria will not succumb to fear,” the President declared.

Security analysts say sustained military operations, combined with improved intelligence gathering, will determine the effectiveness of ongoing counter-terrorism strategies.

Authorities also urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information on suspicious activities.

The government maintains that collective efforts remain critical in addressing insecurity and restoring lasting peace across affected regions.
