C’River Commissioner for Wealth Creation Losses Father, Gov. Otu Mourns With Family

The remains of late Sylvester Mbrayip Egbede, and father of Cross River State Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mr. Patrick Egbede, has been laid to rest at his hometown, Ntara 2-Bansara, Ogoja LGA on Saturday, June 15, 2024.

At the funeral mass, conducted by the Catholic Church, Governor Bassey Edet Otu, represented by his Deputy Rt Hon. Peter Odey, admonished Egbede’s family to take solace in the fact that their father demonstrated unwavering commitment to God.

In his condolence message, he remarked that the deceased was a community leader whose wisdom in resolving disputes was worthy of emulation.

Therefore, “he will be remembered for bringing light into challenging situations,” Otu said.

Also, he admonished the family members to focus on their late father’s exemplary leadership and draw strength therefrom.

The deputy Governor Chief Press Secretary Fred Abua Esq. In a social media post made available to Truth Live News said the biography of Sylvester Egbede showed that he was born nine decades ago.

He said he thereafter, began his education at St Joseph Primary School, Bansara, and later attended St. Thomas Teachers Training College, where he obtained his TC II certificate.

In addition, he went on to work as a teacher, where his teaching talent and visionary approach quickly earned him recognition in the communities he served.

Thus the biography stated “Our beloved father did not face any major health challenges until his passing on Thursday, April 25th, 2024.”

Dr Ben-Caleb Egbede, In a tribute on behalf of the children, described his late father as an extraordinary man, a polymath who donned myriad roles with grace and dignity.

He said he touched the lives of many and left behind a legacy of respect and admiration.

On his part, Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Hon. Patrick Egbede expressed gratitude to his boss Sen. Bassey Edet Otu and everyone who offered love, support, and sympathize with them.

In the same vein, Governor Otu also has attended the vigil mass and night of tribute in honor of late Lady Ezinne Theresa Akpagu, LSJI, mother of the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Zana Akpagu.

The event, which held on Friday, June 14th, 2024, took place in the deceased’s hometown in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State northern Senatorial District.

He comforted Prof. Zana Akpagu, Uncle Joe Ogbudu, and their families.

While encouraging them to find solace in the knowledge that their mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother lived a life worth emulation, he said her life was marked by grace, resilience, and kindness.

Deputy Governor’s Press Unit, reported Rt Hon. Odey also visited the Ogbudu family in Ogoja to offer condolences following the passing of their mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, late Madam Maria Omagu Ogbudu in Ogoja.

It said she lived to the remarkable age of 107 years.
