The Wife of the Governor of Cross River State, Rev. Mrs.Eyoanwan Itam Bassey Otu, has renovated Sickbay, Kitchen, and Administrative Block at the Afokang Correctional Centre in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
While Inaugurating the facilities alongside her husband she commented on the positive impact that these facilities will have on the correctional centre and it’s inmates.
She said the Sickbay will provide comprehensive healthcare services to inmates, helping to ensure their physical and mental well-being.
“These improvements will go a long way in ensuring the well-being of inmates, promoting rehabilitation, and ultimately contributing to a safer and more just society,” she stated.
After praising the commitment and dedication of the various stakeholders involved in the project, Rev Otu said “I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to our people’s first Governor, His Excellency, Prince Bassey Edet Otu.”
Expressing satisfaction with the quality of work done, she continued. “Thank you for your unwavering commitment to ensuring the well-being of our citizens through progress criminal justice policies.”
As she went further to appreciate the dedicated officials and staff who have overseen the renovation process, Rev Otu added. “Thank you for your diligence and perseverance in completing this project.”
The Commandant in Charge of Cross River State Correctional Centre, Kupan .D. Amos, said the renovated facilities have had a remarkable impact on the lives of the inmates and the staff of the centre.
He commended the Governor for the compassion he has expressed for the inmates, and thanked Rev. Otu for the initiative.
Dignitaries in attendance were top government officials, representatives of Legislators Wives Association, Naval officers Wives Association, Judges Wives Association among others.
