CALABAR – The internal crisis rocking the Cross River State chapter of the All Progressives Congress escalated as local government chairmen and federal lawmakers separately issued formal calls against Barrister Alphonsus Eba.
Chairmen of the 18 local government councils demanded the immediate suspension of Eba, accusing the former state chairman of violating the APC Constitution and undermining internal dispute resolution procedures.
The chairmen anchored their demand on Article 21(2)(xi), which prohibits party members from instituting court actions against the party without exhausting all internal avenues.
According to statements sighted by Truth Live News on social media, the forum described Eba’s action as “a blatant disregard for party rules and constitutional discipline.”
The statement, dated December 22, 2025, urged the APC’s disciplinary organs to suspend Eba pending investigation, stressing that ethical party management required strict adherence to established rules.
Forum Chairman, Hon. Yibala Igri Inyang, said the resolution reflected collective responsibility to protect party unity and prevent precedents capable of weakening internal authority.
“We urge immediate disciplinary action to safeguard the integrity of our party,” Inyang stated, warning that failure to act could embolden indiscipline across party structures.
Separately, members of the Cross River State Caucus in the House of Representatives called on Eba to honourably resign as state APC chairman to allow stability to return.
The federal lawmakers cited persistent allegations of financial mismanagement, leadership failures, and loss of confidence among ward, chapter, and state stakeholders.
In a statement dated December 19, 2025, the caucus said sustained agitation against Eba’s leadership posed ethical and political risks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We believe stepping aside is necessary for the party to move forward smoothly,” caucus leader Rt. Hon. Mike Etaba said on behalf of the lawmakers.
The lawmakers stressed that ethical leadership required accountability, self-restraint, and decisions that placed party interest above personal ambition.
According to Truth Live News, which sighted the caucus statement on social media, the lawmakers reaffirmed loyalty to Governor Bassey Edet Otu as APC leader in the state.
The caucus pledged unwavering support for Governor Otu’s leadership, describing unity and discipline as critical to sustaining public confidence in the ruling party.
Political observers say the simultaneous actions by grassroots chairmen and federal legislators signal a widening internal consensus against Eba’s continued influence.
The coordinated calls have intensified pressure on the APC national leadership to intervene decisively to prevent further erosion of party cohesion in Cross River State.
