Dare-devil gunmen numbering three, in a commando-like style have stormed the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), Eagle Parish, killing a 54-year-old Prophet, Yomi Adetula, who is the presiding priest.
The incident occurred in Idiroko, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
It was learnt that the hoodlums numbering three, stormed the church at about 10:30 am while the service was still on and immediately opened fire on the prophet.
Eyewitness accounted that the congregants scampered for safety at different directions in order not to be caught up by stray bullets.
The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident, said that the police operatives who visited the scene of the crime, met the lifeless body of the victim in the pool of his blood, lying face up.
“On careful observation, his body was riddled with bullets and his head was not speared. To ensure the victim was really dead, it was mangled with Axe.
“On police inquiry, information further gathered that three men came into the church, brought out long double barrel gun aimed at their target and fired shots that brought the deceased down,” she said.
Odutola, who disclosed that the remains of the victim has been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ilaro, added that normalcy has been restored to the area while efforts are on to arrest the gunmen.
