CALABAR, CROSS RIVER – Lady Donna Yesida Wayas, daughter of former Senate President Joseph Wayas, has died at the age of 62, CrossRiverWatch reports.
According to family sources, she died on July 14 in Abuja after a brief illness. A journalist and human rights advocate, she passed nearly eight months after her father’s burial.
Joseph Wayas, who served as Nigeria’s Senate President during the Second Republic, died in London in 2021 at 80.

Born in March 1963, Donna Wayas was noted for her professional legal career and social advocacy. “She lived a quiet but impactful life,” a family friend told CrossRiverWatch.
Between 2000 and 2005, she served as Director and Legal Advisor at Universal Service Express Limited, a UK-based courier company.
Corporate filings show she voluntarily resigned in April 2005, five years before the firm was dissolved in 2010.
Her death marks another loss in the Wayas family, sparking tributes from Cross River indigenes who recall her father’s national legacy and her own quiet contribution to justice and service.
