A Nigerian human rights activist, lawyer, and public commentator,
Deji Adeyanju has ridiculed the choice of General Christopher Musa (rtd) as Minister of Defence by president Bola Tinubu, saying it is misplaced priority.
Adeyanju, who is also the chair of the Centre for Liberty and a convener of Concerned Nigerians, a civil rights movement, said the excitement generated by his appointment is premature.
The lawyer dropped the message on his Facebook post on Wednesday, hours after Musa scaled a five-hour confirmation screening at the Senate.
Recall that president Bola Tinubu appointed Musa as Defence Minister after the previous occupant, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, resigned on health grounds on Monday.
Many Nigerians had hailed the appointment of Musa, who was relieved of his position as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) in October.
But Adeyanju took a different views, insisting the new minister might underperform.
According to him “Mark this post. Absolutely nothing will come out of the appointment of General Chris Musa as Minster of Defence, a talkative who failed as CDS but I join the prayer warriors praying for him to succeed since we have turned a simple thing like governance to a prayer venture.”
