Drugs worth over N2 million have been seized by the operative of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
Mr. Afolabi Aderemi, Deputy Director, Pharmaceutical Enforcement Directorate of NAFDAC, Lagos State, said on Friday that the products were seized at hawkers’ and illegal drug sellers’ outlets in some parts of Lagos.
The DG who said the seizures were made on Thursday evening at Mile 2, Ajegunle and Apapa areas, also said that there were no arrests.
But the Agency said it was satisfied at the seizures since its main concern was to ensure that illegal and fake products were out of circulation, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Aderemi, who was reported to have said that the hawkers, who are always at alert of NAFDAC’s constant raids have escaped and leaving their wares behind.
He said they had been noticing that anytime they go out for raids, for about two weeks or more, the hawkers will not be found in such areas, but after sometime, they will reappear.
“We want to block their products from members of the public, he said, If there is no supply, there would be no demand, we want to know those behind them.”
Truth Live News gathered that Aderemi, who went on to advise members of the public to go to registered pharmaceutical stores for drugs, said what they are buying from the hawkers are not NAFDAC-approved.
