Benin City, Edo State

A wave of defections on Saturday struck the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP) as hundreds of their supporters switched allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the Asue/Ogie Ward-to-Ward Campaign in Ovia South West Local Government.

The campaign at Wards 5 and 6, comprising Udo and Ora, held at Ezoti Primary School, Udo, saw a mass defection led by Roland Ohenhen from the Labour Party and Ovie Ighofose from the APC. They emphasized the need to support a candidate with competence, capacity, character, and compassion to propel the state forward, rather than a puppet controlled by others.

Truth Live News gathered that the massive crowd at Ezoti Primary School erupted in celebration as the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, symbolically handed umbrellas to the leaders of the defectors, promising them equal treatment and opportunities within the PDP.

Jubilant supporters, donning branded T-shirts, face caps, and clutching their umbrellas, transformed the arena into a carnival as they danced to the high-energy Asue/Ogie campaign songs blaring from mounted heavy speakers.

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Ighodalo expressed his gratitude and joy for their turnout despite their numerous commitments. He affirmed their mutual love and assured them that he and his running mate, Barr Osarodion Ogie Esq., would work tirelessly to ensure Edo State’s progress.

In a surprising revelation, Ighodalo announced he is a “son of the soil,” delighted to return home. He shared that he had been a director at Okomu Oil for eleven years until December last year, during which he facilitated employment for many able-bodied men from the local government area. This announcement was met with a huge round of applause. He praised the local men for making Edo State proud through their work at the company, which is recognized as one of the best in Africa.

Commending the women for their resilience in managing family affairs despite hardships, Ighodalo received another long applause. He promised that, if elected, he would ensure the completion of the Iguobazuwa road and other ongoing projects, reinforcing his commitment to the community’s development.
