PDP Guber Candidate, Asue Ighodalo

The upcoming 2024 Edo State governorship election has been described as one of the most intriguing since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999, according to Prof. Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr., Convener of the CountryFirst Movement. In his analysis, Prof. Nwaokobia highlighted the distinctiveness of the contest, describing it as the simplest and most predictable despite the formidable candidates vying for the position.

Prof. Nwaokobia outlined the race as a three-horse contest between Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP), and Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). While he acknowledged the unique qualities of each candidate, he emphasized that the Edo electorate faces a relatively straightforward choice. He pointed out that Senator Okpebholo has remained largely silent on his vision for the state, raising concerns about his preparedness. Meanwhile, Akpata, though charismatic, has not convincingly articulated his policy plans, according to Nwaokobia.

In contrast, Prof. Nwaokobia praised Asue Ighodalo, describing him as the most prepared and competent of the candidates. He highlighted Ighodalo’s extensive experience in law and business, his clear policy agenda, and his widespread consultations with stakeholders both within Edo State and in the diaspora. Nwaokobia lauded Ighodalo’s manifesto, “Prosperity for All,” as a well-articulated plan for the future of Edo State. He concluded by stating that Ighodalo’s candidacy is the most credible and capable, making him the clear choice for Edo voters in the upcoming election.
