In a major setback for the Edo State Labour Party’s governorship candidate, Olumide Akpata, doctors boycotted the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) interaction meeting with him at the Doctors House in Ugbowo today, June 25.

The event, which was intended to showcase Akpata’s support among medical professionals, was left empty, with few attendees present.

Our investigation revealed that at one point, organizers considered mobilizing law students from the University of Benin to attend the event.

However, this plan failed as the students were not interested. Sources in Ugbowo, Benin, confirmed that fewer than 15 doctors were present.

The boycott is a significant blow to Akpata’s campaign, as support from the medical community is crucial for the upcoming September election.

The doctors’ decision to snub the event raises questions about Akpata’s ability to connect with key stakeholders and effectively address the state’s healthcare challenges if elected.

With the election drawing near, Akpata faces an uphill task in winning over the hearts and minds of Edo State’s voters.
