…to set up a committee on reconciliation…
Ahead of the Edo State 2024 governorship election, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), met with some critical leaders of the party from Edo State today to chart the way forward. The meeting was held at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata plaza, Abuja.
The Acting National chairman of the party, Amb. Damagu, welcomed all the leaders noting that right from inception of the present democratic dispensation, PDP has been Edo and Edo has been PDP. He urged the leaders to be open and frank in their contributions and be respectful to each other.
The National Organizing Secretary, Hon. Umar Bature, readout the timelines and the activities leading to the primary that will produce the party’s candidate.
In his presentation, the Edo State PDP Chairman, Rt. Hon. Dr Tony Aziegbemi, thanked the NWC for conveying such an important meeting at this critical time. He noted that this was the first time for a very long time that the party leadership will be gathering like this under one roof.
He remainded all present that when he was elected chairman, he was bequeathed with 2 Senators and 4 House of Representatives members but that as at today, the party has a Governor, Deputy Governor, Speaker of the House of Assembly, 14 other members of the House of Assembly , 18 Local Government Councils Chairmen and 192 Councillors, 90 Supervisory Councillors, more than 2500 SSAs and SAs to the Governor.
He said that the party has made tremendous progress in Edo State under the able leadership of The Leader of the Party and Governor of the State, HE Godwin Obaseki,and we have to strive to keep the PDP in government House. Dr. Aziegbemi expressed confidence that if all those gathered in the room worked together with sincerity of purpose, the PDP will sweep the coming governorship polls.
He also said that the Edo State Chapter of the PDP is among the most organized and digitized as reflected in the just concluded registration of new party members with so much enthusiasm from Edolites.
He acknowledged that in discharging his functions as the state chairman, he must have offended some persons and apologized to such persons.
The Edo State Governor, His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki, thanked the PDP for giving him shelter after he was thrown out by the APC. He said he will continue to be grateful to the party. He pledged that whatever sacrifices the party requires of him in order to have genuine reconciliation, he was ready to make.
The Acting National Chairman announced that a committee will be set up to look at the issues raised more closely and holistically with a view to profer solutions for the way forward. He urged all to maintain the peace.
The PDP South-South Zonal chairman, Chief Dan Orbih in his vote of thanks, urged the NWC to ensure that genuine reconciliation is achieved in Edo State PDP.

Mrs Maria Edeko, HE Lucky Igbinedion, High Chief Tom Ikimi, HE Mike Ogiadomhe, Chief Dan Orbih, Professor Agbolahon, Hon. Mrs Herbeta Ayu, Mrs Philo Ihenyen, Prince Joe Okojie, Asue Ighodalo and other aspirants.
