BENIN CITY: Ismail Abdulazeez Mantu Reporting
In a major boost to his governorship bid, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the high-flying candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming Edo State election on September 21, has secured the firm endorsement of the influential Edo Diaspora.
Following a whirlwind tour of five European cities and three American cities, Ighodalo’s vision for Edo State, as outlined in his manifesto, “The Pathway to Prosperity for All,” has resonated deeply with Edo indigenes abroad.
The Europe tour, which took place from June 24 to 29, included stops in Reggio Emilia, Manchester, London, Hamburg, and Nuremberg.
In every location, Ighodalo received unequivocal support.
Edo Diaspora communities, convinced by his presentations and clear distinction from other candidates, have rallied behind his candidacy.
The United States leg of the tour, held from August 12 to 16, was equally successful.
Cities like Houston, Atlanta, and New York hosted fully packed halls where Ighodalo shared his vision for the future of Edo State.
His charisma and depth of knowledge left a lasting impression, prompting one attendee to humorously declare, “This is our choice.
“He knows the difference between a Zoo and a Museum,” to much laughter and applause.
Ighodalo’s successful tour underscores his growing popularity both at home and abroad, largely due to his credentials, leadership qualities, and network of connections.
His compassionate nature and sensitivity have also contributed to his overwhelming support, much to the dismay of his opponents.
In contrast, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, faced a significant setback during his similar tour of the United States.
His inability to clearly articulate his ideas, compounded by public gaffes, notably his confusion between a Zoo and a Museum, has raised concerns about his suitability for leadership.
Okpebholo’s campaign has struggled to recover from the fallout.
As the Edo Diaspora holds considerable influence over voting patterns back home, their endorsement of Ighodalo positions him as the frontrunner in the election.
Many believe his leadership qualities mirror those of first-world countries, making him a favored candidate among the diaspora.
With the weight of Edo’s influential overseas communities firmly behind him, Asue Ighodalo’s prospects in the September 21 election are brighter than ever.
