Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has commended the enduring qualities of hard work, diligence, and forthrightness exemplified by Rosemary Walker-Alli, the wife of the former Governor of Old Bendel State, Late Professor Ambrose Alli.
Governor Obaseki extended his commendation to Chief Mrs. Rosemary Alli-Walker during her 80th birthday celebration in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Delivering the Governor’s message, wife of Edo State, Betsy Obaseki, eloquently underscored the profound impact of Prof. Ambrose Alli’s leadership during his tenure as Governor.
She highlighted the enduring significance of policies and programmes he championed, particularly in education, urban and rural development, and healthcare. These initiatives, she noted, continued to mold the trajectory of Edo State’s progress.
The speech affirmed the late Ambrose Alli and his wife, Mrs Alli’s special place in the hearts of Edo people, resonating with the attendees who had gathered to honour Chief Mrs. Alli-Walker.
Mrs Obaseki also informed Chief Mrs. Rosemary Alli-Walker of the Governor’s decision to pay the pensions and gratuity of the Late Governor of Bendel State, Professor Ambrose Alli from when he assumed office in September 1983 until his passing in 1989.
She also presented a document to this effect to the wife of former governor of Bendel State.
In her response to the felicitation, Chief Mrs. Rosemary Alli-Walker expressed her gratitude to the governor’s wife for traveling all the way from Nigeria to join in her celebration.
In a display of her continued commitment to humanitarian cause, Chief Mrs. Alli-Walker pledged to support free surgeries for children with cleft lips, an initiative named “Operation Smile.”
Recall that the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki in 2018, sought and obtained a posthumous Presidential Pardon for late Governor Ambrose Alli; a request that was ratified by the Council of State in 2020.
