Edo Govt Cuts Mayaki To Size, As CPS Says He Doesn’t Speak For Okpebholo

The Edo State government has said that Mr. John Mayaki as a Nigerian, has the right to comment on issues and hold his personal opinions but can’t speak for the government of the day.

This was contained in a statement titled “Office of the governor, Edo State Government: Okpebholo rejects John Mayaki signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Edo Governor, Fred Itua and made available to journalists in Benin.

The statement said the government has its official spokespersons and that they have been duly announced to the public and they can be reached through verifiable channels.

According to the statement:The attention of the Office of the Governor of Edo State has been drawn to unauthorized statements being issued by Mr. John Mayaki, a former Chief Press Secretary to the immediate-past Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki.

“These unauthorized statements do not reflect the official position of the Governor’s Office on any matter and should be disregarded.

“Mr. Mayaki, as a citizen of Nigeria, has the right to express his views on any matter. However, his personal views should not be attributed to Governor Okpebholo.

“The Governor’s official spokespersons have been duly appointed and announced by Senator Monday Okpebholo. They can be reached through their verified contact information.

“The public is advised to verify any information attributed to the Governor through official channels only”,
