As the Edo State governorship election approaches on September 21, 2024, Deacon Darlington Okpebholo-Ray, the Lead Spokesman of Team Asue Media Organisation (TAMO) and Deputy Director of Diaspora Media for the PDP Asue/Ogie Campaign Organization, has reassured the people of Edo State that the election will be peaceful under the PDP’s leadership.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm program, Okpebholo-Ray emphasized that the PDP governorship candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, is committed to a violence-free election, stressing that neither Ighodalo nor the PDP will engage in any form of violence or hate speech.
“We are peace-loving people,” Okpebholo-Ray stated. “Our candidate, Asue Ighodalo, has never been associated with violence throughout his life, and he certainly won’t start now. We know those who promote violence in Edo State—specifically referring to the July 18th incident at Benin Airport, where opposition APC thugs were caught on camera brandishing weapons and chanting threats of violence. They call themselves the ‘lions and tigers’ of Edo, but we are peaceful.”
Okpebholo-Ray continued by noting that Asue Ighodalo has consistently advocated for issue-based campaigns and that the PDP’s focus remains on addressing the real concerns of Edo citizens, not on inciting violence. “Our campaign is about peace, and our priority is to ensure a safe and secure election for all,” he added.
With the memory of the July 18th violence still fresh in the minds of many, the PDP’s call for peace stands in stark contrast to the alleged actions of the opposition APC.
