The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Governor Monday Okpebholo of failing to address the rising insecurity in the state, following the recent killing of herders in Okpekpe.
In a statement made available to Truthlivenews on Tuesday, PDP spokesperson Chris Osa Nehikhare criticized the governor for focusing on blaming the previous administration instead of outlining concrete plans to prevent further attacks.
“The governor’s response to the brutal killing of innocent Edo people, including Batemue Philip Ebo, Christopher Bello, and Victor Ogedengbe, was more about political blame than genuine concern for the victims,” the statement read.
The PDP also questioned the status of security measures put in place by former Governor Godwin Obaseki, including surveillance systems, a command and control centre, and communication devices for security personnel.
The party further alleged that Governor Okpebholo had weakened the Edo State Security Network by disbanding its leadership and disarming its personnel.
“The purchase of Hilux vans is not a security policy,” Nehikhare added, dismissing the governor’s claims of boosting security with vehicle procurements.
They urged the governor to take full responsibility for the security of Edo residents, emphasizing that passing blame to the previous administration was not an option.
