The organised labour in Edo State have concluded plans to participate in the nationwide strike called by the leadership of labour unions in Nigeria

At a meeting held at the instance of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), their affiliate unions in the state expressed commitment to mobilize their members for the strike which is expected to result in total lockdown of the country.

This development is in line with the directive of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the two unions during a meeting in Abuja

The labour unions have jointly called for an indefinite nationwide strike to commence on October 3, 2023 after failed attempts to cause the federal government to cushion the hardship occasioned on Nigerians by the removal of fuel subsidy

At a joint meeting of the NLC and TUC State Executive Council (SEC) in Benin City, it was resolved that the strike should be total.

It was also resolved that the strike enforcement and monitoring committee to be set up should focus more on ensuring that critical institutions, including banks, petrol stations, the airport, courts, electricity, transportation and the Civil Service Commission withdraw their services.

The State NLC Chairman, Comrade Odion Olaye and his TUC counterpart, Comrade Precious Alabi urged the general public to stock their houses with food items to avoid being stranded while the indefinite strike lasted.
