The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has extended the deadline for registering for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to 13 March 2026.
The examination body said the extension was approved by Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, to give candidates more time to complete their registration.
In a notice shared on social media on Friday, WAEC urged schools and prospective candidates to use the additional time to resolve any outstanding issues.
“The final deadline is now Friday, 13 March 2026. WAEC urges all stakeholders to take advantage of this extension to resolve any pending registration issues as no further extension will be granted,” the statement said.
The 2026 examination will mark a major shift as the WASSCE will be conducted using computer-based testing (CBT) across Nigeria for the first time.
Mr Alausa had earlier announced that the move to digital exams was part of efforts by the federal government to strengthen the credibility of student assessments and reduce examination malpractice.
As part of the reforms, WAEC has also introduced a digital certificate platform known as WAEC DigiCert.
According to WAEC officials, the system allows candidates to access, confirm and share digital versions of their certificates through mobile or web applications. It also enables users to retrieve lost examination numbers.
The digital service has been launched in Nigeria and other West African countries, including Ghana.
