The ousted Speaker of the Ogun House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, and two other key officials, Dayo Samuel and Adeyemo Adedeji, on Monday, appeared in a Federal High Court in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

They faced charges from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) related to an alleged misappropriation of public funds totaling N2.5 billion during Oluomo’s term as Speaker in 2022.

Oluomo, who was removed from his position last week by 18 out of 26 lawmakers, disputes the impeachment, claiming it’s illegal and has taken legal action in the state high court to challenge it.

On Monday, shortly after the trio entered the dock, the court discovered that the counsel for the anti-graft agency could not make it to court.

The presiding judge, Justice Agatha Okeke, however, adjourned the case to February 29 and March 1.

Oluomo had previously been arrested in September 2022 for allegedly diverting N2.5 billion from the Assembly.

He and others were accused of forging receipts and signatures to redirect significant sums of money from the legislative house.

They were granted bail after pleading not guilty, with a requirement to submit their travel documents at the court registry.
