EFCC Files Charges Against Cubana Chief Priest for Alleged Naira Abuse

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has pressed charges against Cubana Chief Priest, the popular nightlife promoter, for allegedly mishandling the Nigerian currency.

Cubana, whose real name is Pascal Okechukwu, is accused of spraying and tampering with the naira at a social gathering, which goes against the Central Bank Act of 2007.

The charges against the Instagram celebrity state that on February 13, 2024, at Eko Hotel, he tampered with N500 notes for two hours during a dance event, violating Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.

Additionally, in 2020 and January 2024, during separate social events in Lagos, he repeated the same offense, also violating Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.

Cubana is scheduled to appear before Judge Kehinde Ogundare at the federal high court in Lagos on April 17.

Known for his extravagant lifestyle, Cubana previously served as the general manager of Cubana Groups before establishing Club Xhrine in Owerri, Imo State, in September 2020.

This legal action follows the recent sentencing of another social media personality, Bobrisky, to six months in prison without the option of a fine for a similar offense.
