Elon Musk has announced the establishment of a new company focused on artificial intelligence (AI) called xAI.
After plans to develop a competitor to ChatGPT, Musk’s new venture aims to understand the true nature of the universe. The company’s website has been launched, introducing a team of twelve staff members. Musk will lead xAI, which will collaborate closely with X (Twitter), Tesla, and other companies to advance its mission.
Musk, an early supporter of OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, later criticized the company for implementing safeguards to prevent biased or sexist responses from the chatbot. He expressed concerns about training AI to conform to specific ideologies. In April, during an interview with Tucker Carlson, Musk hinted at plans for his new AI venture, which he referred to as “TruthGPT,” emphasizing its goal of seeking maximum truth and understanding of the universe.
Musk’s announcement of xAI follows his previous warnings about the potential destructive power of AI and his call for a pause in the unchecked advancement of AI technology. Although specific details about xAI’s mission remain scarce, the website indicates that the company is actively recruiting staff. Currently, all the listed staff members on the website are men.
Musk’s latest venture comes at a critical time for Twitter, the social media platform he acquired for $44 billion. With the launch of Meta’s rival app, Threads, and reports of declining Twitter usage, the future of the platform is uncertain. Musk has faced criticism for various actions, including staff cuts, controversial policy changes, and provocative remarks, which have alienated some users and advertisers.
In addition to Twitter, Musk continues to lead several other companies, including Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, and The Boring Company.
