Drama Over Alleged Secret Relationship: Chris Okafor Withdraws Apology to Doris Ogala

The simmering conflict between Chris Okafor, founder of Mountain of Liberty and Miracle Ministry, and Doris Ogala, has taken another turn as Okafor has retracted his previous public apology over claims of a secret seven-year relationship, Truth live news international reports.

The dispute first gained public attention last year when a video of Okafor’s engagement to Pearl Okafor went viral. Following the revelation, Ogala alleged that she had been in a romantic relationship with the pastor since 2017, claiming she had ended her previous marriage at his urging. She accused him of betrayal and demanded that he either marry her or pay ₦1 billion in damages for breach of promise. Ogala also made shocking claims implicating Okafor in the poisoning and death of her brother.

Speaking during a church service on Sunday, March 1, 2026, Okafor explained to his congregation that the apology he issued earlier was made under intense pressure from people around him whom he considered friends. According to him, the situation was misinterpreted by many who assumed the apology meant he had admitted to the accusations made against him.

“You lose a fight to win a war. I was under immense pressure from certain people around me saying I should do different things. I said that what I am being asked to do is like accepting what I did not do. I realised I was greatly misunderstood,” he said.

Okafor elaborated on the reason behind his public display of regret. “Firstly, the reason why I apologised was that the fathers of faith were being dragged. And I did not want them to be dragged. Pastor Matthew and Bishop Abioye. There is no single apology to that person. There is no apology for what I did not do or for someone I have not met face to face. I was pressured by people I called friends, but who are not,” he explained.

He clarified why he had knelt publicly during the apology. “I knelt down because of those fathers. Not because of any Jezebel anywhere.”

Okafor also stressed that the matter would now be resolved through legal channels. “We have chosen the right cause. And the right course will prevail,” he said, signaling a shift from public gestures to formal legal proceedings.

Despite Ogala’s accusations and the escalating legal threats, Okafor went ahead with his marriage to Pearl, holding both a white wedding and a traditional ceremony. Initially, he described Ogala’s public outburst as “the devil’s anger” over his marital happiness, but he later knelt in apparent reconciliation,an apology he now clarifies was never intended for Ogala herself.

The saga highlights not just a personal dispute, but also tensions involving the wider religious community, with prominent pastors reportedly being caught in the crossfire of public pressure and private conflict. Okafor’s latest statements make clear that his priority is protecting these figures while relying on legal channels to address the claims made by Ogala.

As the story unfolds, Nigerians continue to watch closely, with questions about accountability, the limits of public apologies, and the interplay between personal conduct and religious authority dominating conversations online and offline.
