‘I Prefer to Work’ — Sunday Afolabi Speaks After Danfo Driver Video Goes Viral

A video of veteran Nollywood actor Sunday Afolabi working as a commercial “danfo” driver has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread reactions.

The clip shows the actor popularly known for his role in the classic film Owo Blow, calling out to passengers and assisting them into his bus.

Afolabi’s involvement in the transport business is not new. He had earlier disclosed in an interview with fellow actor Kunle Afod that he ventured into driving to sustain himself while waiting for acting opportunities.

According to Afod, the bus was given to Afolabi on a return basis, with efforts made to support him financially. He also appealed to the public to assist the actor in acquiring his own vehicle and improving his living conditions.

Explaining his decision, Afolabi emphasised the importance of staying productive despite challenges.

“One has to wake up with hope. But being hopeful does not mean you should sit around doing nothing. I prefer to work because I never know when the next acting role will come,” he said.

The viral video has generated mixed reactions online. While some praised his resilience and work ethic, others criticised the lack of support systems for ageing actors in the Nigerian film industry.

The conversation has also reignited concerns about the welfare of veteran entertainers, coming shortly after Abiodun Ayoyinka opened up about his own financial struggles.

Afolabi rose to fame for his role as Fatai in Owo Blow and has since featured in several productions, including Luwo Gbagida, Lahira, and Children of Mud.
