Nollywood Legend Chiwetalu Agu Celebrates 70th Birthday in Grand Style

One of Nollywood’s most beloved and recognisable faces marked a major milestone on Wednesday March 5, 2026, as veteran actor Chief Chiwetalu Agu clocked 70 years old surrounded by fans, colleagues and well-wishers at a birthday celebration held at Desikiok Hotel in Rumuibekwe Estate, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The legendary actor took to his Instagram page to mark the special occasion by sharing new photos of himself, captioning the post with the words “Happy Birthday to me, Iche Chief Chiwetalu Agu.” Fans and colleagues immediately flooded his comment section with congratulatory messages, prayers and warm wishes celebrating the veteran and praying for long life and continued good health.

Agu had announced the celebration weeks earlier, personally inviting fans and colleagues to join him. “I will be 70 on the 5th of March, 2026. Glory be to God, Amen. Come and celebrate with me,” he wrote on Instagram, adding that those planning to attend should send him a direct message.

Known for his unmistakable delivery, witty Igbo expressions and screen presence, the veteran actor turns 70 with a career that remains as influential as ever spanning television soap operas before Nollywood existed, to festival-screened films that have represented Nigeria on the global stage.

Born in Enugu State in 1956, Agu won the 2012 Nollywood Award for Best Actor in Indigenous Movie and has become a household name across generations of Nigerian viewers for his unique use of language, phrases and proverbs that have made his performances instantly recognisable.

He has featured in over 700 productions across a career spanning more than three decades and has accumulated 47 awards along the way.
