Rotimi Salami has shared details about the passing of his late colleague, Allwell Ademola, while also addressing long-standing rumours about their relationship.
Ademola died in December last year at the age of 49 after suffering a heart attack at her residence. She was laid to rest in Lagos on January 9.
Speaking in a recent interview with Oyinmomo TV, Salami disclosed that although the actress had an underlying health condition, her death resulted from a sudden cardiac arrest.
“It is simple. It is cardiac arrest. And that could happen to anyone,” he said.
He described the late actress as someone who was highly conscious of her health, noting that she never went out without her inhaler due to her asthma condition.
“The only thing is that she is asthmatic and she does not joke with her health. Her inhaler is always with her,” he added.
Despite her health awareness, Salami said her passing was unexpected, stating that he believes it was simply her time.
“I just believed it was her time to pass.”
Beyond her death, the actor also addressed speculation about a romantic relationship between them. He revealed that Ademola once contacted him about the rumours, asking if he was concerned.
According to Salami, he paid little attention to such claims and was not bothered by public opinion.
“There was a time she called me and asked if I was aware of the rumour people are peddling about us. I told her I did not hear about it. And truly, I do not listen to people,” he said.
However, he emphasised that his marriage remained his top priority and that he would have created distance if his wife had expressed any discomfort.
“I told her if my wife says she was not comfortable with our relationship, I would withdraw because she is the only person I am answerable to.”
Salami also noted that it was after joining the Yoruba movie industry that he began interacting more closely with people, including the late actress.
In January, a neighbour of Ademola also gave an account of the circumstances surrounding her death.
