Colombian superstar Shakira has been tapped once again for the official FIFA World Cup song, this time teaming up with Nigerian sensation Burna Boy on a track titled “Dai Dai.”
Shakira made the announcement on Instagram, writing: “From Maracanã Stadium, here is ‘Dai Dai,’ the @fifaworldcup Official Song 2026. Coming 5/14. We’re ready!” She attached a teaser clip filmed inside the iconic Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, which instantly sent fans into a frenzy online.
The song is described as a catchy reggaetón-tinged Afrobeats track that blends both Shakira and Burna Boy’s musical worlds. The full track arrives May 14 and was announced directly from Rio de Janeiro’s Maracanã Stadium, with the teaser clip triggering immediate comparisons to “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” Shakira’s massive 2010 World Cup anthem that became one of the biggest global crossover hits of the century.
According to Vanguard News, Burna Boy is the first Nigerian artist to have multiple albums reach one billion Spotify streams. Three of his songs have climbed into Billboard’s Top 10: “Last Last” in 2022, “wgft” alongside Gunna in 2025, and “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” in 2023.
The music video for “Dai Dai” was filmed at the legendary Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, following Shakira’s recent visit to Brazil, with the production emphasising a deep connection to the sport’s history while looking forward to the next chapter of the World Cup cycle.
The addition of Burna Boy signals FIFA’s growing embrace of African music and culture on the world stage, and the collaboration is already being tipped as one of the biggest football music moments ahead of the 2026 tournament.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada, and is expected to be the largest in FIFA history, expanding to 48 national teams and 104 matches. “Dai Dai” drops in full on May 14.
