Sophia Momodu’s Lawyer Files N1bn Suit Against Davido Over Alleged Harassment, Cyberbullying

According to reports circulating online, though yet to be officially confirmed by her legal team, the suit alleges cyberbullying, defamation, harassment, and threat to life.

Bella Chukwu, legal counsel to Sophia Momodu in her ongoing custody dispute with music star Davido, has reportedly instituted a ₦1 billion lawsuit against the singer.

Sources claim the lawyer is demanding that Davido retract alleged defamatory statements across all his social media platforms, issue a public apology, and ensure that his associates cease any form of harassment directed at her and her family.

Courtroom Drama

The development follows reports last month that Davido allegedly lost his composure during a court session in Yaba. Lawyer Maruf Muhammed had claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that the singer became agitated during cross-examination, leading to tension in the courtroom.

Davido, however, later clarified that he never sought full custody of his daughter, stating instead that he requested joint custody. He also announced his decision to withdraw the case, expressing hope that his daughter would one day understand that he fought for her.

Public Reactions, Legal Position

Amid the controversy, Davido’s associate, Israel DMW, weighed in on social media with comments that further fueled online discussions.

In a statement posted on their official Instagram page, Sophia’s representatives expressed concern over what they described as inflammatory public remarks. They emphasized that the custody case remains sub judice and would ultimately be determined by the court based strictly on evidence and applicable law.

The statement added that while public commentary cannot influence judicial proceedings, any threats, intimidation, or harassment directed at legal practitioners outside the courtroom could undermine the integrity of the justice system.

Background to Custody Dispute

In 2024, Davido filed a suit seeking joint custody of their daughter, Imade, alleging that Sophia denied him access and attempted to extort money from him—claims she denied.

Sophia subsequently opposed the joint custody request, citing several concerns, including the tragic loss of Davido’s son, as part of her argument regarding parental suitability.

Despite the legal tension, the former couple reunited publicly last year during Imade’s 10th birthday celebration, marking their first appearance together in three years. Davido later shared photos with his daughter, describing the reunion as one of the happiest moments of his life.

The legal dispute between the estranged partners continues to generate significant public attention, with further developments expected as proceedings unfold.
