Nigerian singer Peter Okoye has threatened to take legal action against a social media user over what he described as defamatory comments about his late mother.
The issue began after the user shared a photo of Okoye’s mother on X (formerly Twitter), alleging that she had strongly opposed his marriage to a Yoruba woman.
Reacting to the post, Okoye condemned the claim, describing it as “unacceptable and deeply hurtful.” He demanded that the post be taken down immediately and insisted on a public apology, warning that failure to comply would result in legal consequences.
“You’ve crossed the line. Take it down and apologise immediately, or I will take legal action. This madness on social media must stop,” he said.
Okoye, one-half of the now-defunct music duo P-Square alongside his twin brother, remains a major figure in Nigeria’s music industry. He married Lola Omotayo in 2013 after several years of dating.
His mother passed away in 2012 following heart surgery in India.
