Dr. Anuoluwapo Adepoju, a medical doctor and founder of MedContour Services Ltd., has been convicted and sentenced by the Federal High Court in Lagos to one-year imprisonment for a failed plastic surgery that led to the death of Nneka Onwuzuligbo in 2020.
The judge handed down the verdict on the convicted doctor, after analysing all the submissions of both the prosecution and the lawyer of the deceased.
Justice Liman, however, ordered the convict to pay the sum of N100,000, in lieu of the jail term.
Former Director-General of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Babatunde Irukera, who shared the news on Twitter, expressed pride in the prosecution.
He stated, “I personally prosecuted Anu Adepoju and her medical practice. Although I have left, the case concluded with a conviction, reinforcing accountability for all, whether professionals or not. This is how society should function and progress.
“Dr. Anu Adepoju and her medical practice have been convicted on all five counts charged by the FCCPC. Justice may move slowly, but it must be pursued with determination and competence. This is a good day for consumers of professional services.”
In 2020, the FCCPC had charged Adepoju with five counts before Justice Mohammed Liman, accusing her of ignoring summons to appear and provide certain documents.
