Federal civil servants have until July 31, 2024, to verify their identities on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) portal, as the government plans to stop salaries and impose sanctions on ghost workers.

Many civil servants are rushing to obtain their Taxpayers Identification Number (TIN) at Federal Inland Revenue Service offices across the country. The TIN, along with the IPPIS number and salary account number, is required for the verification process.

President Bola Tinubu had mandated that civil servants who continue to draw government salaries after relocating abroad must refund the money. He also directed that the supervisors and department heads of these culprits be punished for enabling the fraud.

A senior civil servant in Abuja, speaking anonymously, noted that many civil servants are struggling to meet the July 31 deadline for verification. “We have many civil servants in Ilorin trying to register before the deadline. I just managed to get my TIN after several failed attempts online,” he said.

Another civil servant confirmed the deadline and the rush to complete the verification, citing past instances where those who failed to meet the deadline had their salaries stopped.

In response to the President’s directive, the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation has launched a portal for civil servants’ verification.
