Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday, said that President Bola Tinubu-led administration plans to create one million jobs for youths in the digital world.
According to a statement from Olusola Abiola, director of information in the office of the vice president, Shettima stated this when he received a delegation from the Republic of Korea led by Jang Sungmin, special envoy to the Korean President Yoon Yeol, at the Presidential Villa.
“75% of Nigerians are below the age of 35, so we are soliciting your partnership and support in digital skills training for our young people. We want to create 1 million jobs in the digital world. India earned $120 billion last year from global outsourcing and we are in a unique position to take advantage of the opportunities in the sector. We need the skills set, we need the technology to drive the process and yours is a technology that we can embrace,” he said.
Shettima further stated that the bilateral connection between Nigeria and Korea is very strong and is based on years of mutual trust and cooperation.
He added that Nigeria is committed to fostering this partnership, particularly in terms of promoting trade, technology transfer, and maintaining world peace.
“A lot of Korean companies are doing business in Nigeria, especially in the area of oil and gas. Six of our LNG trains were constructed by Korean companies.
“We are fully committed to a very robust relationship between our nations. We need to learn a lot from Korea, especially in the areas of manufacturing and agriculture. You are a success story worthy of emulation by all developing nations.”
While noting that Korea has always backed Nigeria in international fora, the vice president stated that the country must pay it back by supporting Korean companies doing business in Nigeria.
He consequently promised that the administration will make it easier for Korean companies and other foreign investors to conduct business in Nigeria.
Sungmin, in his speech, thanked Nigeria for the successful installation of the new administration.
Additionally, he sent Tinubu’s personal invitation from Yeol to the next Africa-Korea summit in South Korea.
