The late Dr. Herbert Wigwe, former CEO of Access Holdings, his wife Doreen Chizoba, and their eldest son, Chizzy, have been laid to rest in a private tomb within the Wigwe University, which he established in Isiokpo, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Their remains were transferred from the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Isiokpo following a funeral service, and the burial took place at approximately 2:45 pm on Saturday.
As the bodies were lowered into the grave, emotions ran high, with tears flowing freely. Dr. Wigwe, his wife, and son tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash near the Nevada border in California, USA. Also involved in the accident was Abimbola Ogunbanjo, Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc.
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, pledged the state government’s unwavering support to Wigwe University during the burial proceedings.
The funeral service was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Kayode Fayemi, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Bukola Saraki, Aliko Dangote, Sanusi Lamido, Alex Otti, Dapo Abiodun, and Babajide Sawno-Olu. Additionally, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, James Ibori, CEO of GTCO Holdings, Segun Agbaje, and other prominent figures were present to pay their respects.
