In a significant legal battle in Adamawa State, the State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal is currently engaged in the reading of a 175-page judgment regarding the election dispute between Senator Aishatu Dahiru Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This dispute stems from the March 18, 2023 gubernatorial election, where Governor Fintiri was declared the winner.

Senator Binani, alongside the APC, lodged a petition challenging the election results, citing extensive electoral law violations and alleged fraudulent voting practices. Additionally, they raised concerns about the legitimacy of the declaration, claiming that it was made in the absence of the Returning Officer for the exercise.

In a pivotal development, the tribunal has declared the previous declaration of Senator Aisha by Hudu Yunusa Ari as illegal and subsequently dismissed it. This decision carries significant implications for the ongoing legal battle.

All eyes are on the tribunal as it prepares to deliver its judgment on October 28, 2023. The outcome of this case will undoubtedly have a substantial impact on the political landscape in Adamawa State, with the potential to reshape the balance of power. As the reading of the judgment continues, the citizens of Adamawa await the final verdict that will determine the fate of their state’s leadership.
