Not less than 10 persons have been confirmed dead while some were displaced due to flood after a heavy rainfall in Adamawa State.

It was gathered that the heavy rain lasting over 15 hours caused destruction to lives and property in some parts of Girei Local Government Area of the state.

The Executive Secretary of Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), Dr Suleiman Muhammad, also confirmed the incident on Friday.

Muhammad said that 10 persons were killed, while several others were displaced in Jabbi Lamba town and environs, following Thursday’s heavy rainfall recorded in the Girei Local Government Area and some parts of the state.

He said:

“Six corpses have been recovered while four others are still missing. The natural disaster led to the hospitalisation of three kids after a building collapsed on them in the town.

“ADSEMA has since deployed its assessment team to the affected areas. We’ll reach out to the National Emergency Management Agency to visit the affected communities to ascertain the level of damage caused by the disaster.”
