Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has been named in the prestigious Football Black List 2025, in recognition of his outstanding contributions off the field.
The Football Black List announced its winners in the “Players – Off the Pitch” category, highlighting individuals using football as a platform for social impact.
Iwobi, who plays for Fulham F.C., was listed alongside Eberechi Eze of Arsenal F.C. and Jess Carter, an England international defender.
The annual list, established in 2008 by Leon Mann and collaborators, celebrates Black footballers making meaningful contributions through philanthropy, activism, and community development.
Iwobi’s recognition stems largely from his initiative, Project 17, which he launched in 2021. The programme focuses on empowering underserved Black youth through football clinics, mentorship, educational workshops, and tournaments like the P17 Cup.
His efforts have also earned him the Baobab Award in Sport, acknowledging his leadership and positive influence on young people both in Nigeria and internationally.
Other honourees on the 2025 list include Naomi Bedeau and Shakira Waithe.
Reacting to the news, the Nigeria national football team congratulated Iwobi, expressing pride in his achievement.
The Football Black List continues to spotlight players who extend their influence beyond football, using their platforms to drive social change and uplift communities.
