Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has categorically stated that the recent spate of attacks in the state is not attributable to farmer-herder clashes but should be classified as acts of terrorism.
In his New Year message, Governor Mutfwang characterized the assaults on communities in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi local government areas as a “Christmas genocide.”
Welcoming 2024 as a “year of hope in the midst of conflict,” the governor acknowledged the sad note on which 2023 concluded, citing the loss of numerous lives, including over 400 between April and June 2023 and over 160 in the recent Christmas attacks.
Truth Live News gathered that Governor Mutfwang described the attacks as “unprovoked and simultaneous,” stressing their premeditated and coordinated nature.
He asserted that these acts constitute criminality, insurgency, and terrorism, emphasizing the need to address them through that lens to effectively curtail the destruction of lives and property.
Governor Mutfwang vehemently rejected the characterization of these assaults as mere Farmer-Herder clashes, labeling them as a misrepresentation of facts. He urged a candid acknowledgment of the situation, stating, “Let us call a spade a spade, this is simple genocide.”
The governor’s strong language reflects the severity of the situation and emphasizes the importance of addressing it with the appropriate terminology, nomenclature and approach for a lasting solution
