A socio-political group known as ‘Fusion 196’ said it supports Sen Godswill Obot Akpabio’s ambition for the Office of the Senate President of Nigeria come May 29.
In a press statement, the group in Cross River State south south Nigeria said, its decision was imperative given the fact that people have to be intentional in projecting leaders who mean well for the people.
Giving reasons for supporting Akpabio, the Fusion 196 said “It is with a deep sense of patriotism and immense commitment to a united and prosperous Nigeria that it affirmed total solidarity with Akpabio’s ambition.
Signed by Joe Agbor, the Public Relations Officer for Fusion 196, the statement on Wednesday 24th of May said “as a socio-political organization in Cross River State committed to the advancement of good governance, we are poised as a group to continuously stand for the promotion of good leaders to assume leadership positions and advancing tenets of merits in service to humanity. ”
Akpabio in the statement was described as a man of quintessence from the South South Nigeria, in tune with collective aspirations in a united Nigeria.
“Sen Akapabio’s political trajectory is replete with verifiable giant strides, excellent milestones and ground-breaking innovations” Agbor said, he is an uncommon tranformer,a trailbraliser, effective organiser and robust manager of men and resources.”
The PRO went on to say that the Senate Presidential hopeful’s capacity and commitment to leadership are legendary, hence, bringing him to the fore as one with requisite credentials to steer the 10th senate for virile legislative business.
As to how principal officers of the Senate are selected, the group said “It is common knowledge that the decision to elect the Senate president and other principal officers of the Senate is the exclusive preserve of legislators.”
In the statement, they however made passionate appeal to all elected Senators of the 10th senate across party lines to throw their support for a man whom they described as “unifier and a mercurial leader” with sound legislative acumen honed over the years.
According to Agbor, “the essential of Akpabio signifies a distinct era of legislation as the principle of separation of power where underlying concern is for mutual understanding between arms of government to strengthen development in Nigeria.
Also the statement reads in part, “We the people of South South believe in Sen Godswill Obot Akpabio possesses right attitude to governance and competence to lead the 10th Assembly.
“It is important to state that in the emerging Nigeria of a Renewed Hope post 29th May are men who believe in a united Nigeria.
“People in his mould should be encouraged to lead with high responsibilities as the Nigerian Senate,” the statement said.
The group used the opportunity to commend the president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all the Senators-elect for supporting Sen Akapabio’s collective aspiration as the best foot to led the 10th senate.
