No fewer than ten persons were confirmed dead as a result of spark from voltage after electric power supply was restored in some communities along the Zaria-Kaduna Expressway.
The affected communities include: Zazzau in Gwargwaje and Kauran Juli.
The high voltage was said to have generated spark and subsequent fire outbreak in the houses affected.
According to a resident in the area, Mallam Abdullahi Tanimu, said, “Electric power supply was restored in high voltage in the area around 1am. It caused indiscriminate spark of electricity gadgets.”
The ugly incident was said to have led to the death of a pregnant woman, health personnel, and a police officer and several others.
Head of Corporate Communication, Kaduna Electricity Company (KEDCO), Abdulazeez Abdullahi who confirmed the number of casualties involved in a statement disclosed that it was a result of high tension line snapping onto the low-tension line, which resulted in a voltage supply outside limits.
He said, “The source feeder was immediately opened in an emergency to avoid further damage.
KEDCO appreciated the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, for his support in managing the aftermath of the ugly incident.
