Mats Hummels, a Roma defender, has ignited controversy by comparing Real Madrid to Donald Trump.
This bold statement comes after Real Madrid’s decision to boycott the Ballon d’Or gala, where Manchester City’s Rodri took home the coveted award.
Hummels expressed his thoughts on his podcast, “Alleine ist schwer,” stating that Real Madrid’s absence from the event was disrespectful to Rodri and everyone involved.
He furthered that Vinicius Junior was a deserving winner, but also affirmed that the organizers’ decision to award Rodri was fair, considering his impressive performance last season.
The comparison to Trump stems from Hummels’ perception that Real Madrid’s reaction to not winning the award was similar to Trump’s behavior.
“Using the words ‘lack of respect’ for not winning an election is a bit Trump-like, and unfortunately, it’s disrespectful to others,” Hummels said.
Truth Live News reports that this drama unfolded after Rodri was announced as the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner, beating out Vinicius Junior, who was considered the favorite.
The Real Madrid team, including Vinicius Junior, as a protest, skipped the ceremony in Paris.
