Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the last Edo State governorship election, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of Major General Godwin Osagie Abbe (Rtd). Abbe, a former military governor of Akwa Ibom and Rivers States, as well as a former Minister of Defence and Internal Affairs, passed away recently.
In a statement released on Monday by the Team Asue Media Organization (TAMO) and signed by Mr. Erhabor Emokpae, Ighodalo lamented the loss of an exceptional son of Edo State. He described General Abbe as a man whose contributions to his state and nation were unparalleled.
“Edo State has indeed lost an illustrious son whose dedication to his fatherland remains immeasurable,” Ighodalo said, highlighting Abbe’s administrative prowess, professional discipline, and invaluable role in Nigeria’s development.
Reflecting on Abbe’s distinguished career, Ighodalo noted his service as General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), and Minister of Defence and Internal Affairs. He also praised Abbe’s leadership as a military governor of Akwa Ibom and Rivers States.
Ighodalo concluded by praying for the late general’s peaceful rest and for strength, comfort for his family and loved ones in this difficult time.
