The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the September 2024 Edo State governorship election, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, has called on party members to remain strong and united as the party continues its legal battle to reclaim what he described as a “stolen mandate.”

Speaking in Benin on Thursday during a PDP stakeholders’ meeting, Dr. Ighodalo encouraged party faithful to see current challenges as a test of their faith in God.

He reassured supporters of his commitment to fight for the mandate he says was freely given to him and his running mate, Osarodion Ogie, by the people of Edo State.

“We will restructure, strengthen, and refocus the party. Everyone who worked with loyalty for the PDP will be rewarded appropriately,” Ighodalo told the crowd, adding that “the days of rewarding those who did not contribute are over.”

The meeting was attended by prominent PDP figures, including the state caretaker committee chairman, Tony Aziegbemi; former Edo governor, Chief Lucky Igbinedion; and several other political leaders and lawmakers.

Ighodalo expressed gratitude to women, youths, and party supporters for their efforts during the election, claiming that despite intimidation and the use of money by opponents, the PDP won “hands down.”

He further explained that the party has filed an appeal against the election result and is prepared to take the case to the Supreme Court if necessary. “Our lawyers are working hard, and we believe in justice,” he said. “Let us stay strong—God is hearing our cries.”

The stakeholders’ meeting served as a rallying point for unity and hope, with leaders reaffirming their support for Ighodalo and the PDP’s ongoing legal efforts.
